Hopefully this FAQ section will answer many , if not all, of your questions about a newborn session with me. Should you have anything else that you would like answered, please get in touch with me via the contact page and I will respond promptly.
When is the best time to book my newborn photo shoot?
Please schedule your newborn session while you are still pregnant.
I only secure a very limited number of due dates per month to guarantee my availability when you deliver and to be able to offer each and every one of my clients the best customer service. If you have already had your baby please still contact me and I will try my best to accommodate you.
What if my baby arrives early/late? Will you still be able to fit me in?
When you make your booking for your newborn session, I make a note of your estimated due date on my calendar.
If your baby happens to arrive earlier or later than expected, this is no problem. I keep my weekly schedule quite flexible to accommodate the unpredictability of babies. I also understand that some of our sweet little ones need a little extra time in the hospital as well. In these cases, we will adjust the time to schedule your newborn session when baby is home and heathy.
Is there an age limit for newborn photography?
This really depends on what you want. If you really want photos of your sweet, new baby asleep and dreamy, then it's best to do your session within the first week or two. If you're happy with a more awake, interactive images of your baby, a session can take place any time within the first couple of months.
Where does the session take place?
New Studio Opening October 2019!
Your Session can take place in my brand new home studio or from the comfort of your own home!
What Will My Session Be Like?
Your newborn session will typically begin with posed images of your baby (if you book a platinum session)
Using organic natural tones and textures, I will create timeless and beautiful images of your little one, all while you relax and look on adoringly. I believe in creating beautiful images that highlights the incredible little details of your newborn, in a natural, baby-led approach to newborn photography, we will then following on with lifestyle images of baby and family members. (There is no baby posing with a deluxe session) Deluxe Sessions - Photographing in your home allows me to incorporate your life into your session, whether it be photographing those bonding moments in the nursery, introducing a pet to the new family member, or even allowing a sibling the opportunity to show off their new “big-brother/sister” capabilities!
What If My Nursery Isn’t Ready Or My House Is A Wreck?
That should be the least of your worries! As a Mum myself, I know what it is like to balance a newborn, family time, dinners, housework and oh yeah, you just had a baby!!! Rarely do I enter a house that is camera ready, but rest assured, your home will photograph beautifully no matter what…I am not afraid to move stuff out of the camera frame!
What Should We Wear?
Natural and pastel tones photography really well, however If you wish to add colour I suggest the following..
grey, charcoal, tan, olive, mustard, navy, plum, blush pink, cream, white.
Soft floral patterns, textures and layers also photograph well. (Think linen, denim and lace)
Anything with movement such as long dresses, skirts or flowy tops also look amazing!
Layers such as a floral or lace kimono can also help cover up a few extra kg you might want to hide after you had a baby.
Please avoid being super matchy with outfits but rather mix and match 2-3 colours.
Start with mum: Pick out your all-time favourite outfit that makes you feel like a million dollars (or treat yourself to something new) and use your outfit to guide your choices for the rest of your family.
You can just as easily start with someone else in your family that you already have an amazing outfit for, and go from there.
Not sure where to shop? I recommend the following stores:
Seed Heritage, Country Road, Witchery, David Jones, Max, Decjuba, H&M, Jamie Kay, Little Bambinos, Cotton On, Kmart, Next Direct
- Please avoid wearing the following: black, bright/neon colours, logos/graphics, and business shirts
Newborn Clothing, newborns are so small it is often very difficult to photograph them in cute outfits as they are usually swimming in them, and just tend to look silly. If you wish to have your baby clothed a suggest a simple snug fitting outfit.
A stretch'n'grow or all in one bodysuit/singlet done up under the crotch is perfect!
H&M, Jamie Kay and Little Bambinos have some adorable body suits/stetch'n'grows!
I will also bring several neutral coloured baby wraps that showcase just how tiny your little one is or your welcome to use your own shawl or wrap!
How soon will it be until I see my photos?
I aim for a turn around time of 2-3 weeks. Once I have personally hand edited each of your photos, you will receive an
e-mail from me giving you access to a password protected online viewing and ordering gallery which you will then be able to share with friends and family. Your USB with all your HiRes digital files will then be mailed out to you with-in 10 days of your gallery going live..
I do post a couple of sneak peeks on my Facebook page - www.facebook.com/belindacarrphotography - Please feel free to share or tag yourself in your images.
Can I print the photos I receive on my USB?
Yes you can! You are free to print these photos for personal use only. These images are not watermarked. I highly recommend ordering your prints through me especially if you are printing anything larger than 8x12" I cannot guarantee the quality of your photos if printed elsewhere
